Karolinska Institutet (KI) is one of the world’s leading medical universities. Its vision is to significantly contribute to the improvement of human health. KI is the largest contributor of academic medical research in Sweden and offers the country’s broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences. Research at KI has a strong European dimension, with almost 200 project participations within the EU’s now-closed Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). Of these, KI coordinated 28 projects. KI is also the major Swedish beneficiary of funds from the National Institutes of Health in the U.S.
KI partners participating in the ESCORT project work in the Learning Informatics Management and Ethics (LIME) department. This department focuses on developing and disseminating knowledge at the intersection of social sciences, humanities, technology, and medicine. KI ESCORT project partners have research experience in medical education, health informatics, human-machine interaction, virtual patients for education, and teamwork and communication during emergency codes. This is in line with the ESCORT project’s goals in assessing and implementing technological solutions for emergency situations and training healthcare personnel.
KI is serving as a clinical partner in the ESCORT project. KI’s role within the ESCORT project is as a contributor and task leader. KI leads a task in requirements gathering and stakeholder consultation. As a contributor, KI will be involved in collecting, analyzing needs and requirements, understanding operational readiness for hospital surges, reviewing relevant advances in healthcare technology, implementation, and dissemination.
