Press Release
ESCORT Kick-Off Meeting
25 mar 2024
Thessaloniki, March 13-14
Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 March 2024 the Kick-off Meeting for the ESCORT project was held at the Aristotle University Research Dissemination Centre in Thessaloniki (Greece), after the project had officially started in January 2024.
ESCORT is a 36-month research project funded by the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Funding programme. The project builds on the outcomes of the NO-FEAR project and aims to bring prominent advances in IoT, Wearables, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) to facilitate enhanced patient treatment services for the enrichment of patient experience and European health and care service resilience.
The consortium of 12 partners that assembled for the Kick-off Meeting, is equipped with the expertise of 6 technical partners and 6 leading health service providers from 5 European and 1 associated member states. The health service providers specialise in emergency medicine and offer regular health and care services across 6 countries (Greece, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Ireland, Israel). The multidisciplinary collaboration will result in the delivery of new methodologies and technical interventions for the improvement of pre-, post-clinical and emergency medical care services, tailored to 3 scenarios specifically. The scenarios comprise the management of hospital surges in natural incidents (such as wildfires or earthquakes), the management of chronic conditions, and the impact assessment on regular care because of cross-border health emergencies and emerging health threats.
The core activities of the project consist of:
-
The establishment of a patient engagement group that will contribute to enhancing health and care services through the co-design and co-production of innovative digital tools.
-
The development of innovative patient services for improved quality of care.
-
Resource optimization and operational efficiency to promote the use of balancing emergency medical care against regular health and care services
-
The development of innovative AI-based technology.
-
Evidence-based recommendations promoting EU health and care resilience.
The digital tools of the project will be validated against three case studies and a training programme will be developed to educate medical health and care professionals about the use of advanced medical solutions.
